About the author

Subani Maheshwari is a psychiatrist and an award winning children's book author. She loves reading and coming up with new stories together with her husband and two young girls. Subani’s stories are often inspired by her daughter’s conversations and questions. Her debut book, Rainbow, Rainbow in the Sky, was inspired by their curiosity about rainbow formation. It won the first place at 2022 Purple Dragonfly Book Awards in board books category.

Subani wrote Melody the Unicorn and the Beauty Within, the first book in the Melody the Unicorn series when her daughters asked if they could change their hair and skin color to look like their friends. With her stories, Subani hopes that children will embrace diversity, accept their unique qualities and shine with confidence. 

Her next book, Melody the Unicorn's Big Worry is set to be published in spring 2024.
